Embedded Control for Military Robotics
Designing embedded systems for military-grade EOD ROVs including real-time multi-node RS485 communication protocol, motor control, sensor fusion, and field-deployable firmware architecture.
Overview
Embedded systems for military-grade EOD ROVs: real-time multi-node RS-485 communication, motor control, sensor fusion, and field-deployable firmware architecture.
Challenge
Field robots must coordinate many subsystems in real time and keep working when a node fails — reliability, determinism, and fault tolerance are non-negotiable outside the lab.
Approach
- A custom RS-485 master-slave broadcast protocol for multi-node coordination
- Real-time motor control and sensor fusion (RTK GPS, LIDAR)
- A field-deployable firmware architecture built for maintainability
Results
Protocol published as Best Paper, ICCIT 2024; the platform was delivered and field-deployed.
Direction: formal real-time guarantees and tamper-evidence for field buses.
